Inspection, Testing and Maintenance
Emergency power systems shall be inspected, tested and maintained in conformance with CAN/CSA C282-M, "Emergency Electrical Power Supply for Buildings."
Notification
When an emergency power system or any part thereof is shut down, the supervisory staff shall be notified.
Instructions
Where an emergency power system is installed, instructions shall be provided for switching on essential loads and for starting the generator when this is not done automatically.
Records
Written records shall be maintained as required in CAN/CSA C282-M, "Emergency Electrical Power Supply for Buildings."
Supply of Fresh Fuel
Liquid fuel storage tanks shall be drained and refilled with fresh fuel at intervals not greater than twelve (12) months.

Periodic Operational Tests
The emergency electrical power supply system shall be completely tested at least once a month.
Test of system operation shall:
- simulate a failure of the normal supply;
- be arranged so that
- an engine-generator set operates under at least 30% of the rated load for 60 min; and
- all automatic transfer switches are operated under load;
- include an inspection to assess the correct functioning of all auxiliary equipment such as the radiator shutter control, coolant pumps, fuel transfer pumps, oil coolers, and engine room ventilation controls,
- include a record of the readings of all instruments associated with the engine and generator and a verification that they are normal; and
- be carried out, logged, and reported as further prescribed in the manual of instructions for operation and maintenance.
