Unsprinklered Buildings


All storage of flammable and combustible liquids must conform with B.C. Fire Code (2006) Edition, Section 4. Please contact Burnaby Fire Prevention Office for additional information and declaration of storage.
Non-Sprinklered Buildings

Reference B.C. Fire Code (2006) Edition Section 3.2 Indoor Storage for all storage applications in non-sprinklered buildings. Height limitations in this section are very specific.

Life Safety Devices

Once life safety devices are established, maintenance of these items are required.
  • Fire extinguishers; mounted and accessible.
  • Egress pathways must be kept clear. Criteria for dimensions are specific to storage commodity and height.
  • Annual maintenance of fire extinguishers, emergency lights, fire alarm, and sprinkler systems. Records of maintenance must be recorded for 2 years at a time and made available to Fire Department.
  • Accessible hose stations.
  • No keyed locks on designated Exit doors, or in exiting route.
  • Fire Department sprinkler connections require 1 meter clearance of all obstructions.
Threaded caps to protect the thread (NFPA 14) must be used. Fire Truck Access route to remain clear.
