Reference B.C. Fire Code (2006) Edition Section 3.2 Indoor Storage for all storage applications in non-sprinklered buildings. Height limitations in this section are very specific.
Life Safety Devices
Once life safety devices are established, maintenance of these items are required.
- Fire extinguishers; mounted and accessible.
- Egress pathways must be kept clear. Criteria for dimensions are specific to storage commodity and height.
- Annual maintenance of fire extinguishers, emergency lights, fire alarm, and sprinkler systems. Records of maintenance must be recorded for 2 years at a time and made available to Fire Department.
- Accessible hose stations.
- No keyed locks on designated Exit doors, or in exiting route.
- Fire Department sprinkler connections require 1 meter clearance of all obstructions.
