To ensure that the Department hires the best candidate for the job of a firefighter, the Training Division puts on pre-recruit training sessions for selected hopeful candidates.
The Pre-Recruit program involves five weekend sessions where candidates are given basic firefighter training. Candidates are evaluated on their ability to work with firefighting equipment and their ability to work within a team structure.
Upon completion of the Pre-Recruit Training, remaining candidates are scheduled to attend four days of 'Ride-A-Long' with an Engine Company.
This program has been very successful as it allows the Department to evaluate candidates prior to hiring.
