Computer Aided Dispatch

The Burnaby Fire Department operates and manages it's own Emergency Dispatch Centre. A Fire Lieutenant and a Firefighter are responsible to receive and dispatch appropriate vehicles to a variety of emergency situations. When a caller dials 911, the location is automatically displayed on the dispatch monitor, along with accompanying data, such as hazardous materials, fire hydrant position and any associated historical information. This data is then forwarded on to terminals located at the fire station(s) involved in the immediate incident. A tone alert and verbal description of incident is broadcast, and the appropriate assistance is on its way.

Once the incident has been cleared, the Records Management System (Sunpro) then eliminates the need for traditional manual written reports. Automatically written report narratives and assistance to quickly complete an incident report are the main functions to the R.M.S. This system partnered up with the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) designed by Integraph Corporation, is leading the industry in efficient and expedient dispatch.
