Recruitment Process

The following is a basic outline of the recruitment process. Additional data may be collected and evaluated.
Step 1: Application Review
Applications are reviewed based on qualifications.
Step 2: Pre-Screening Interview for the Orientation Program
Short-listed applicants are invited to a pre-screening interview.
Step 3: Orientation Program
Subsequent to the pre-screening interview, a group of applicants is identified to proceed to the Orientation Program. The Orientation Program is completed over a 5-day period. The first day focuses on an introduction to the Burnaby Fire Department and CPR training. Participants are exposed to Fire Department equipment and training techniques during the remaining 4 days.
Step 4: Ride-Along Program
Subsequent to the Orientation Program, a group of participants is identified to proceed to the Ride-Along Program. The Ride-Along Program is completed over a 4-day period. It consists of reporting to a fire station and being exposed to firefighting duties.
